Day 244: Concentrated Watercolors

All these days that I've been racking my brain for ideas, I've totally forgotten about Mystery Box.  You remember Mystery Box don't you?  Mystery box just sounds cool... and mysterious.  Today, I pulled out a slip that said concentrated watercolors.  If you don't know, concentrated watercolors are watercolor paints already in liquid form and very intense hence the name.  I first learned about them in an art journaling book and decided to give them a try.  They weren't cheap, but I got to admit, they're pretty cool.  Since, I don't use watercolors so much anymore, this set has lasted me a long time.  They haven't dried out because they're in little bottles with eyedropper caps on them.  Even when they do dry out on a palette they can still be used because, well, they're watercolors.  Today, I was just playing around and seeing what I could do with just using the eyedropper and not a brush.  I also put a piece of paper towel on top to speed up the drying because the last time I did something similar it took quite a while to dry.  Thanks for checking in today!

Day 242: Bar Code

I'm sorry this is so pixely.  I was having more fun with online font generators!

Day 241: Connect the Dots

It was harder than you would think to make this and maybe I thought too hard about it.  I tried to make it so it would work if someone were to actually connect the dots.  It's actually harder than you would think to do with letters.  It was also harder than you would think to upload the thing.  Something was going on with the add image thinger, but I finally got it up via Facebook and another computer hence the pixeliness...

Day 240: 5 Minute ATC

After a long day at work, I found little time to whip up a cool project for you.  So I decided to give myself a few constraints and waited to see what developed.  I gave myself five minutes and one ATC to work with. I happened to grab a brown marker and this is what I got.  Somehow, it reminds me of chocolate.  Great.  Now, I want some...

Day 239: For Wyatt

Earlier this summer in Erie, PA, a little kitten was tortured by a group of children.  They threw him into the air repeatedly and let him hit the ground.  Police eventually rescued the kitten and he was treated by vets, but his injuries were too much and the kitten, named Wyatt by his caretakers, died.  His death has sparked outrage on the local, national, and even international levels.  Since, there have been many working to raise awareness for animal cruelty.  You can get more info here at http://www.facebook.com/justiceforwyatt.

Day 238: Status Update

If you spend any time on Facebook, you know people can be pretty awful on there.  If it's not people being uncool to each other, it's raunchy jokes and pictures that make fun of different groups, etc.  If I could just say one thing to all the haters out there, it's...

Day 237: Unique Book Mark Day

I don't know how long it's been since I followed a prompt from the 365 book.  Today it says to make a unique bookmark and leave it in the book for someone else to find.  Currently, I'm reading The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo (man, I can't pronounce half these names!)  I made this bookmark out of a piece of bristol board and used a knife to shape it.  Then, I went over the edges in marker so it would contrast with the white pages and later went over the whole thing with a very light grey maker.

Day 236: Just Checking

Today's project is inspired by, of all things, my transaction register for my checking account.  You see, I was writing a check to pay a registration fee for a 5K I hope to run soon and being the artist that I am, saw a project opportunity.  So if the weather's good and everything goes ok, it will be my first three mile plus race in almost ten years!  Wish me luck!

Day 235: Scraps ATC

Today's project was inspired by the book about art journaling I was looking through and also the scraps of coupons, notes, etc. on the table beside the couch.  You don't need expensive materials and papers to make art!

Day 234: Little Bird ATC

Hello all.  Today is Day 234 of 366.  The craziness continues and today I finished an ATC I started a few days ago for no particular reason and with no particular reason in mind.  I brought back my little bird stencil and decide to love myself a little bit by letting myself work with some of my favorite materials: marker and pen.  I hope you enjoy it.

Day 233: Business Cards

I was racking my brain for a good long while trying to think about what to do today.  I've had these business cards made a while back for this project that I've been sending out with my Etsy orders and meant to put out on my show table, but never did.  Finally, instead of just showing you one, I cut them up into the letters and photographed them on the back of a sketchbook.

Day 232: Glue!

Last week was pretty hectic.  Yesterday turned into a much longer day than I thought and today was my day off.  I was going to paint, do a really cool project, nap, run, and not go anywhere besides mass.  Things started off that way, but then the baseball game came on at two o'clock and as of the time of this post (7:42 PM) is still going!  18 innings so far!  Anyway, I wanted to steer things back toward handmade after an all digital week last week and I was looking for something I haven't drawn with yet hence the craft glue pen here.  Have a good week, everybody!

Day 231: LOA in 3D

Today, I discovered a free word art generator.  It's one of those basic free samples of a bigger program-type deals so this was as far as I got.  There are some cool and fun things you can do to experiment and enhance your art or journals for free if you look.

Day 230: Crazyness

Today's project just about sums up my schedule lately.  It's been tough sometimes trying to juggle two jobs not to mention trying to find time for time for my own creative practice, but I've still managed to do my daily project even though they're not the profound masterpieces I'd like them to be.  Part of doing a 365 (366) project, though, is to make something and be creative everyday whether you like it or not so hopefully some good will come of this.  Thanks for checking today!

Day 229: Fonts and More Fonts

I'm getting a logo designed for my photography and I've spent the last... while experimenting with fonts so I can give the designer a better idea of what I'm looking for.  It also seemed like something I could do for my project today.  So pay special attention to the last three and tell me what you think.

Day 228: Filters

It was a long and crazy day and like my Pirates right now, I can't seem to get anything going.  The prompts in the book this week aren't doing much for me so I decided to go with the digital trend this week and threw together this little experiment after a bunch of other attempts that just didn't look good.  Finally, I just put a bit of text through a bunch of different filters.

Day 227: Paint Program

In this day of sophisticated high-tech graphics and photo manipulation software, sometimes it's fun to go old school.  I was wondering just now if my computer would even had "paint." (It does and I went to town.)  This is also one of those nights where it's more about having a little fun and playing around than making a masterpiece.  With many of us now well into our year long projects, it's easy to get into a creative rut and lose pleasure in our work.  One of the best cures, is to have some fun and let loose.

Day 226: Loveth One Another-th

It's another night on the couch with the game on still in the process of editing some photos from a couple weekends ago.  Tonight, I took one of those pictures and tweaked it a bit to use for my project.  I hope you like it.

Day 225: Keep Calm

As the Olympic Games wind down, it seemed like a good day for this Keep Calm poster in honor of the host country.  I found this poster generator a while ago and have just been waiting for the right day for it.  You can make your own and have it say whatever you want in any colors at http://www.keepcalm-o-matic.co.uk/#create.

Day 224: Sketti

Did your mom ever tell you not to play with your food?  Next time, tell her it's art!

Day 223: Letterhead

I didn't have anything particular in mind today so I snooped around one of my graphics programs for some project ideas.  I stumbled upon stationery (exciting I know,) but it was another opportunity to get outside my comfort zone a tiny bit and go digital.  It's not real complicated, but... baby steps!

Day 222: Graffiti Font

Today I was exploring more online generators.  I found one where you can play with fonts at http://interactimage.com/.  I chose this font because it remind me of graffiti, clean-no-sticky-spray-paint-on-your-fingers-graffiti.  Then, I put a filter on it just for fun so it's more interesting than the plain black and white font.

Day 221: Warning Sign

Hi there.  Today is Day 221 that means 142 days to go!  Thanks to all my 8 followers.  I appreciate you!  Today, I have to admit I was looking for something quick and easy.  I stumbled upon this warning sign generator at http://www.warningsigngenerator.com/download.php a while back and it seemed like a good time to do it.  It also addresses one of my pet peeves.  Not only is texting and driving annoying, but also dangerous, deadly, and illegal in some places.  Do you ever see those "last text" commercials?  Please spread the love and wait til you stop.

Day 220: Blue Day

Today is a work-only-with-blue-materials day.  I worked with all blue pixels and several filters in this little number.

Day 219: Slushie!

This week's schedule is pretty darn full.  My day doesn't end when I leave work.  There are doctors appointments, double shifts, and oil changes for the car like today.  While waiting on the ol' blue streak, I went for a walk and got a slushie.  Realizing my point-and-shoot didn't have a card in it, I had to wait until I got home to take this picture which may be one of a series of on-the-go artworks this week.

Day 218: Measuring Things Day

I'm going to put this one down as another one of my experiments.  I'm not sure how much it has to do with the message, but this was another interesting piece of handmade typography.  I actually went back to the book today for guidance and it says to work with rulers, etc. so that was what I did.  I got out my see-through grid-ruler-thing as well as my metal ruler, pens, pencil, and non-reproducing pencil (which you can did indeed reproduce) and went to town on this here piece of Bristol board.  Finally, I tweaked it a bit on the computer and brought back some of the grittiness which I kinda liked.  Enjoy!

Day 217: Black and Gold

It was another warm night for baseball watching and another loss unfortunately.  There's always tomorrow so I made a quick black and gold sign to keep showing the love.  I hope everyone's having a good weekend.   Thanks for checking in.

Day 216: Rally ATC

I didn't have a hat on so I couldn't "put my rally cap on."  My Pirates were down in an important game and I whipped up this piece hoping they would pull it out.  It didn't happen, but I did get my project done on this 216th day.  (That's more that halfway!)  Let's go Bucs!

Day 215: Craft Show Book

Here is yet another one of my books that I have.  This one is used to write down my craft sales and has alternating pages of cardstock and notebook paper.  The cardstock is for doodling or collecting emphemera from the event, etc.  The notebook page is for writing down what sold.  I did this at a show tonight when things were pretty slow.  It wasn't my best or worst night, but I got my baklava and that's what counts.

Day 214: Toothpick Day

I hope you're as excited about Toothpick Day as I am!  Yeah.  Anyway, it's toothpick inspired day in Noah's book and this is the extent of my creativity after a full day at work.  At least, I did them on a clean blanket.   Speaking of Noah, if you get the chance check out his blog at skulladay.blogspot.com.  It's an extenction of his famous Skulladay project and it also features other people's skull artwork.  Back on Day 181, I did a skull-themed project and submitted it.  I didn't know if it would even make it with all the submissions they get over there, but it did on Monday and you can check it out at the link below.  Thanks and have a great day!
