Day 305: Sticky Note Day

Ok so this is actually the prompt from the book for tomorrow, but I just couldn't think of anything cool to do on this rainy day.

Day 304: Rainy Day Notes

Hi everyone!  Hope you're warm and dry wherever you are unless you're down under, then go jump in the pool.  In my little corner of the world, Sandy was just another rainy day.  I wish I could say the same for all the people who have just been devastated.  My thoughts and prayers go out to those people further east and to the families of the sailors who were lost with the Bounty.  I hope this brightens your day anyway.  Thanks also to my friends and family who leave me awesome messages.

Day 303: Alphabet Soup!

As Sandy bears down on the east coast, it's probably good I have the day off from work.  It's cold and rainy out and the perfect day to curl up with a good book or a hot bowl of soup.  Love someone today and say prayers for anyone effected by the storm, those brave soldiers who have to stay outside and guard the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier, and also for the crew of the HMS Bounty, a tall ship and a national treasure that has sunk 90 miles off South Carolina.  Most of the crew has been rescued by the Coast Guard, but, as far as we know, there are still two missing.

Day 302: God Made the Animals

Today in Sunday school, I tried to teach the kids about how God made the animals and how we're to care for them.  On this rainy day, all our animals are safe and warm inside.  Believe me, with all their beds and blankies, they're well cared for.  This is for all the puppies and kitties like Baby Wyatt who aren't or weren't so well loved or cared for.

Day 301: At the Mexican Restaurant: Part Dos

Today's project brought to you by my Nikon Coolpix and the cardboard cutout at an Erie Mexican restaurant.  Enjoy.

Day 300: Morse Code

Can you believe it's Day 300?  This is my 300th project!  (Huzzah!)  66 more days to go!  Today, I give you the message in Morse code.   I don't know why, but that concept just popped in my head and I looked it up on the computer.  I found a website that will not only translate it, but play it for you.  Pretty cool.

Day 299: Silver Day

I did it by the book today, my 365 book, and today that means work only with silver materials today.  My material: foil.  My weapon of choice: a silver Sharpie.  In fact, I did my job so well, you can hardly see it so I upped the contrast and whatnot and it made for an interesting effect.

Day 298: Cookie Cutter Tool

I hope you're all proud of me and my Photoshop Elements experiments.  I'm slowly improving my digital skills, I think... I hope.  Thanks to a book I have about Photoshop Elements 7, I discovered how to do these cool crops.

Day 297: Standard Aspect Ratio

It's Day 297 out of 366 and I'm already thinking about next year.  I've been considering doing something drawing based and possibly all in standard aspect ratio which is 1:1.85.  A lot of movies that you see are formatted that way.  I think it would be interesting.  What do you think?  Comment here.

Day 296: Welcome to Fall

It's been a beautiful fall here in the northeast.  I stepped out the door this afternoon to see if it was good running weather (it was) and I was also wondering what to do for my project today.  I wasn't too concerned.  I had the feeling an opportunity would present itself and it did.  Dead and dry leaves that have fallen gathered in drifts here, there, and on the front porch.  Before they blow away and crumble, I turned a few into a work of art.

Day 294: Pink Week: Tissue Paper Experiment

I hope you enjoyed "Pink Week."  It wasn't all I hoped it'd be, but I hope you liked it anyway.  I started this project yesterday and it's based on a project idea from a book on collage.  You use tissue paper and acrylic paint to make an interesting texture.  Today, I added another coat of paint and then used a stencil to add the letters.  In other news, I've already got some ideas in mind for next year and it should be interesting.  Thanks for checking in today.

Day 290: Pink Pens Hat

I had this hat for quite a while and by a while I mean possibly as far back as late last year when I was planning this project.  Sometime in February, I believe, I finally had it embroidered at a kiosk in the mall.  I kept waiting for the right photo opportunity, but it never came.  Now, during Pink Week, I have a good chance.  I hope you enjoy it and say a prayer for all our lady friends currently struggling with breast cancer.

Day 288: Pink Week: Dancing

Welcome to Pink Week.  As I'm sure most of you know, it's Breast Cancer Awareness Month and there's pink everywhere.  Even the players in the NFL look pretty with their pink shoes on!  I think I'll get in on the action and work with pink all this week!

Day 287: Wedding Day!

Today, my baby sister marries her college sweetheart.  There's too much to say about it to fit it all in here.    This project has been and is all about the love and today is a very special celebration of that.  Nevertheless, there's a lot to be done today so I got to go.  I hope you all have a blessed day and if you have a minute, say a prayer for the new couple!

Day 286: Painting with Nail Polish

Well, I don't have much time.  I'm off to a rehearsal dinner pretty soon.  I was thinking about what I might do for my project today and it hit me.  On the way home from work, I picked up some nail polish for the big day and not this red.  This was from a previous wedding, but still it got me thinking.  I wondered before what it would look like to paint with nail polish and decided to try it out on an old piece of plexi.  Maybe if it wasn't so beat up, it would have worked better, but I think there's some potential here.

Day 285: Swedish!

So why in Swedish today?  I've begun reading the third book in The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo series.  Unfortunately, the film for the first book isn't on instant Netflix yet so I was watching the Swedish version complete with subtitles today.   If I totally botched it, though, would my Swedish friends help me out?

Day 284: Water Soluble Wax Pastels

I bought myself a new toy the other day so I can keep going with my drawing exercises: water soluble wax pastels.  They're pretty much like watercolor pencils but bigger.  I think these will be fun.

Day 283: Candy Corn and More

It's that time of year.  Those who eat it, enjoy.  If you don't, make art with it!

Day 282: Toothbrush Day

Just before you think I've gone off the deep end, hold up a minute.  Today in Noah Scalin's 365 book it's Toothbrush (or toothpaste) Day.  It reminded me of Heather who's doing a project called "The Toothbrush Chronicles" and you can check it out here: http://thetoothbrushchronicles.blogspot.com/.  It's been a while since our 365ers group on Facebook did a round of Inspired by a Friend's Blog so I decided to do one myself today inspired by Heather's toothbrushes.

Day 281: Rainbow

It was a cold wet day... a day for getting cozy on the couch with your favorite blanket and some hot apple cider.  There was another rainy day not too long ago that produced one of the most vivid rainbows I can remember.

Day 280: Hang, Man

Did you ever play Hang Man as a kid?  Maybe in school?  I know I did.  It's just another one of those things you do as children that just seems odd later on like that thing with popping the tops of dandelions.  What were we thinking?  I made a little Hang Man puzzle today, but in my version no poor stick guy's getting capital punishment for missing a couple letters.

Day 279: Welcome to ALF!

It's been over five years since I graduated from college and six since I've been to the Autumn Leaf Festival.  Thanks to a day off of work, I was able to get down there on the day before homecoming.  Much was familiar like the smell of the Fine Arts building and the sunflower wallpaper on the department chair's door and much was different like the new suite-style dorms and fancy new dining hall.

I just knew if the got the chance to make it back to my alma mater, I would have to make a project there so I walked to the far side of campus and took this photo of the bronze golden eagle statue in front of the gymnasium.  That was one of my missions for today.  The other mission was to get my hands on a "Poorman Caramel Apple" and if a waffle cone bowl with apple pieces, caramel, ice cream, chocolate shell, sprinkles, a cookie straw, and a cherry doesn't say "love" I don't know what does!

Day 278: Work Schedule Art

Another work week is almost done.  There's a day off for me tomorrow for a morning appointment, a short trip, and a heap of other things I have to take care of before a working weekend.  While relaxing this evening, I watched a movie and turned this week's schedule into a work of art.

Day 277: My Dirty Car

Hello all!  Today's project comes to you courtesy of all the back roads I mistakenly traveled on to and from work today.  Let's just say my GPS didn't lead me where I wanted to go and it quickly turned into "one of those days."  Thanks to my guardian angel and some very forgiving coworkers, everything seemed to work out alright.  As you can see something good did come of it, my project for today!  Here's to looking on the bright side.

Day 276: Girl Collage

I love to flip through mixed media art books and magazines and often wonder where people get some of the things they use like the vintage graphics and such.  Sometimes, you can get some artist papers and image sheets in magazines which is where I got this girl/doll/ thing.  I'm not quite sure what that is on her.  I was going to say accordion, but I have no idea.  I hope you enjoy it anyway.

Day 275: Mixed Media ATC

I'm sorry it's not more exciting today.  I was feeling rather uninspired so I just picked up different pens, etc. on hand and doodled a bit.
